This free tool helps you identify the most appropriate focal length to achieve a specific field of view from your CCTV camera.

A wide angle may result in objects being too small, a tight angle may result in image cropping, by adjusting the range for a specified lens this tool immediately re-calculates estimating distance both horizontally and vertically for both 1/3" and 1/4" sensors.

Conversely, by adjusting the focal length instead you can see what impact that will have upon the field of view at a particular range.

How does it work?

For the techies amongst you, this tool uses the formula f = c x d/w

f = lens size needed (mm)
c = chip width (mm) 1/3” CCD = 4.8mm or 1/4” CCD = 3.2mm
d = distance of object from camera (m)
w = width of view required (m)
